- The name Woodland Trading Company has only been around a couple of years, it is a branch of a company, B & C Emporium which was started by Bill Phillips my father (dececced) and I, Craig Phillips, which was a store the sold and restored antique furniture, also in the store we had a about 1/4 of the front of the store which was Marge's Corner, which was an arts and crafts consignment store, which was run by Rob Truax's mother's. The stores contents have changed over the years we changed in to Reproduction Oak Furniture, and original & reproduction hardware, basket & chair seating supplies, and supplies for the antique trade that has it's own web site www.b-c-e.biz on that site you will find some of the items we show here available for shipping for online ordering.
The building we are in here in downtown Allegan was built in 1906 fpr a hardware store Phillips Bros. Hardware (no relation). We have been in this building since fall of 1981, my how life has changed.
In late 1980's we got into the manufactoring end of the furniture business, did it for about 10-12 years and got tired of being a baby sitter to the employes, and shut it down. I still do a little custom work in the shop once in a while.
Rob's mother died, and we closed up Marges Corner, and my father Bill was in a nursing home, my mother Anne was left in the store by herself, so I brought Rob Truax down from the furniture manufactoring plant and we worked at the store now, my mother Anne is now semi-retired again as she retired from being a nurse at Allegan General Hospital.
